When summer arrives and activities pick up, it’s easy to get caught up in things like cold drinks, music festivals, beach days, and pool time. Still, it’s important to remember to take care of your ears, nose, and throat.

At Topeka ENT, we want you to enjoy summer while staying aware of a few health risks that can affect your ears, nose, and throat.

Here’s a summer guide from our ENT specialists to help you stay healthy.

Summer ENT Guide

Hydrate for Throat Health

Warm weather and being outside can dry out your mouth, throat, and vocal cords.

  • Carry a water bottle to ensure you and your family drink plenty of water throughout the day.

  • Try not to drink too many sugary or caffeinated drinks, since they can make you dehydrated.

Sun Protection

Keep in mind that the sun shines on your nose, ears, and lips all year long.

  • Put on broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen on your ears, lips, and around your nose before you go out. Reapply if you’re outside for more than two hours.

  • Wear a wide-brimmed hat to provide shade for your face and neck.

  • Choose fragrance-free products to reduce the risk of allergic skin reactions.

Pack a Summer ENT Care Kit

Think about putting together a kit with everything you need from this guide. Have fun this summer, but stay safe. Whether you’re at the beach or in your backyard, your ENT and allergy health is important.

  • Earplugs

  • Saline spray

  • Allergy meds

  • Sunscreen

  • Water bottle

  • Bug spray

  • Sunglasses and hat

  • Throat lozenges
