Podcasts are a fun way to keep yourself entertained during a long drive, a spring-cleaning day or even just a walk at Gage Park. Hearing loss shouldn’t stop you from enjoying your latest episode binge.
Let’s examine how you can accommodate for your hearing loss while streaming podcasts.
Try Bluetooth® Hearing Aids
In 2019, 7.1% of adults aged 45 and over used a hearing aid. The small but technologically advanced devices help you hear by amplifying sound directly into the ear canal. They can be a great addition to your podcast episodes.
Many hearing aids now have Bluetooth capabilities that allow you to stream content directly to your hearing aids. Connecting your hearing aids with most phones or laptops generally follows the same few steps:
Reset your hearing aid to enable Bluetooth.
Go to settings on your phone or laptop and turn on Bluetooth.
Select your hearing aids from the list of device options.
Once you have connected your hearing aids to your phone or laptop, open up your favorite podcast app and start listening.
Wear Noise-Canceling Headphones
Noise-canceling headphones block out ambient noise and allow you to keep your volume lower. You will be able to better hear your podcaster’s latest theories and facts, and the lower volume will help you avoid unnecessary hearing loss.
Over-the-ear headphones are another great option for people with hearing loss. Not only do they help block out sound, but they also leave room for your hearing aids.
Choose Easy-To-Understand Podcasts
Not all hosts and podcasts are alike in terms of audio. Some hosts may mumble, and some audio may be poorly recorded. Choosing the right podcasts will help you better understand what is being said without needing to raise the volume.
Read The Transcript
A lot of podcasts come with transcripts or captions. While you may be listening to them while you drive or do other work, the transcripts can be handy for clarifying points or phrases you may not have initially understood.
